The Marang (Artocarpus odoratissimus) originates from Borneo.
Other names include Johey oak, Green pedalai, Madang, Tarap, Timadang Terap, Loloi, Khanun sampalor and Keiran.
Marang fruit is round to oval and smaller than its cousin the Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), The fruit has short brittle spines protruding from the rind. The rind is thick and fleshy. The flesh is snowy white, very sweet when ripe, juicy, very aromatic and of excellent flavour The flesh is separated into segments clinging to the central core and each segment contains a seed. The seeds can also eaten boiled or roasted. The Marang is considered to be one of the best dessert fruits in the Philippines and is sometimes used to flavor ice cream.
